Thought for the day- Think

“ All that we are is a result of what we have thought. The mind is everything…What we think..we become”

Buddha

Our conscious mind interacts with the external world through our five senses. Our senses give us information about the external world. Our conscious mind thinks about it, determines what information it believes is true, and than sends that information to be stored in our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind uses the information to tell our bodies how to respond back to the external world.

Every cell in our body receives instruction from our subconscious mind. Every instruction is given, based on the information our conscious mind has determined true, and passed on to our subconscious. The information our subconscious receives determines what it tells the cells of our body. What our subconscious tells the cells of our body, determines our reaction to what we experience.

Our conscious mind, only passes the information to our subconscious, that it has determined is true…it doesn’t have to actually be true, our conscious mind only has to believe it is. Therefore, any information that is in our subconscious, any information our cells receive, are a belief of our conscious mind.

I am afraid of bridges. My conscious mind believes, that there is something scary about a bridge. It has relayed the message to my subconscious, which stored this information. When I come to a bridge, or even think about crossing a bridge, my conscious mind thinks “There’s a bridge!”..my subconscious mind receives the information, and gets its secretary to pull up the bridge file, which states “SCARY” on the cover ..then like a troop commander, my subconscious starts sending out orders, to all the cells of my body, and my body reacts with fear. The thought that I hold and believe about bridges has played a part in molding who I am…just as every thought you believe, plays a part in molding who you are. If I did not hold the belief, the thought, that I do about bridges, my life would most certainly be different. I might have a different job, travel to different places, experience different things. I would not be writing this right now, and therefore I would be doing something different at this moment. My life would be different. I would be different.

So what makes us believe what we believe?

What is it that makes my conscious mind believe that bridges are something   to fear ?

I was not born being afraid of a bridge. At some point, something happened, related to a bridge, that scared me. Maybe, I saw a bridge collapse on tv, or maybe I heard about someone else having an accident on a bridge..what ever it was (because, I don’t know)  made my conscious mind think bridges were something to fear, and I believed this thought to be true, because its logical to believe that something bad could happen, while on a bridge. Whatever it was, it was believable to my conscious mind, and  the information was stored in my subconscious. The stored information is pulled up each time the thought of a bridge, enters my conscious mind.

Our conscious mind has the option of questioning information it receives from our senses. It has the option of not believing it. Our conscious mind deals with reason and logic. Our conscious mind can logically dismiss something as not true. If I had watched a movie, showing King Kong ripping apart the Brooklyn bridge, my conscious mind, which deals with logic, would know that this was not true. I could prove that it was not true. That information, would never be stored in my subconscious mind. To believe and accept something is true, our conscious mind has at some point logically concluded that it is in fact believable. Repeatedly thinking , and feeling, that something is a certain way, convinces our subconscious that we believe it is true. Whether it is good, or bad. Fact or fiction. Our subconscious doesn’t care, it believes our conscious mind.

We become what we think.

If we believe eating meat is wrong, we become a vegetarian. If we think certain races are beneath us, we become racist. If we believe everyone is out to get us, we become paranoid.

What we think, what we believe, molds us, into who we are.

This is why it is so important to question everything. We need to make sure we know that what we are thinking, is correct. We need to take the time to investigate and research, before we claim a view. When we just accept information, and believe its true, without questioning, we are doing ourselves a great injustice. Sometimes, we can question the information, and still be wrong, but to blindly believe what others believe, robs us of who we really are.

To know that, what we think, we become..and not even question what we think, is insane.

To let someone else figure things out for us, and accept their conclusions, is careless. By doing this we let others control us. We are letting others decide who we are, and who we become.

Your thoughts are you.

Question what you think..

Question what you believe.

You have created your life, with your thoughts.

You have molded your life into what it is, with your beliefs.

If your life is not how you want it to be..

Maybe its time to break the mold.

“Do not believe in anything, simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers or elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

This was an awesome entry. I too am afraid of bridges, terrified to the point of not being able to go where I want to go. I can get there if I can find a way around the bridge, so therefore, it is not because I don’t want to go. Infact, the fear of driving over a bridge has severely hindered my life. Why am I afraid of bridges. There is no reasonable answer. I have tried to talk myself out of it. Friends have tried to drive with me. They thought if I would just “do it” I would be cured. Instead I find myself on the side of the road in a complete panic attack, sweating, heart racing, crying.. even to the point of getting sick. I have a friend who so sarcastically states, “you car is not any further off the pavement on a bridge than on a street” Thanks.. that helps a lot.
Today I am going to think about my fear of bridges and meditate about it. I will picture myself driving calmly over (a small) bridge and arriving safely on the other side. I think I will work on this all week, and see what happens. Thanks for making me think about my subconcious.

How true. There are so many things the unccosnious mind just does. Whereas the conscious mind has to tell you to do it in the first place. Some people allow their conscious minds to get too involved when the unccosnious mind already knows what to do.VA:F [1.9.6_1107]please wait…VA:F [1.9.6_1107](from 0 votes)

Consciously there are so many things I would like to do that sub cocinsously, I already do without thinking. That’s the beauty of the unconscious mind, there is no thinking to be done, it is already done for you.VA:F [1.9.6_1107]please wait…VA:F [1.9.6_1107](from 0 votes)
